Reverse dieting for bulking?

Is reverse dieting somehow a better option for bulking than just following a target calorie/macro figure(s) and maintaining steady weight gain? I may be a bit confused. I only just learned what reverse dieting was and was.
Anyways I’m a 23 yr old male. 5’8” @ 142lbs. Currently bulking at 2900 calories per day.
