Taking time off to get diet in check

Hey,

So about 3 months ago I hurt myself in two places. I have taken about 2 months off and then came back to the gym. Been back to the gym but I am now going to be getting surgery for something else which will keep me out for about 1.5 months. During this time I am looking to clean up my diet a bit but I am unsure of which direction would be the best way to go. As in, which diet should I do for my goals.

I am
5'7"
175lbs
About 22% BF

I want to slim down a little, down to about 13-15%. I don't care for abs, not going for the fully body building look. Since I am out of lifting for 1.5 months, should I take this time to diet hard and lose as much weight as I can and start over from scratch when I can go back to the gym? Or is it better to just try and lose a little bit now slowly, then get back into the gym and continue to lose until I am 13-15% and then start building back up?

I am more worried about my strength over all of it. But I figured if I dropped bf% now since I can't workout, it would be better cause I am going to lose a lot of strength again during this time.
