Consistent protein powder intake

For those that consistently consume protein powder in shakes, smoothies etc, do you use it because you can't hit your protein minimums or is it more out of convenience? I am just curious because I haven't taken a protein powder in years and never have a problem getting in enough protein each day. It seems like the majority of threads, from beginner to the experienced, tend to have protein powder utilized at least sometime over the day.
