Hi, I need some help to understand the whole calorie deficit/surplus deal.
I originally came to this forum because I want to lose some weight. I'm skinny but with some excess fat. After reading the posts here I realize I should also build up some muscles in order to look slimmer, which is my ultimate goal.
It's quite clear that to lose weight one would need a calorie deficit, while to gain muscle one should have calorie surplus. But how about when you wanna lose fat but also build some muscles (but not too big)? I'm not going for a body builder look, I just want to be a bit more toned I guess.
I don't know how many calories my normal eating habits contain (sorry), however I do know that I neither gain weight nor lose weight with my normal eating habits. So I'm guessing it's within the "maintain" amount.
So if I want to lose some fat while also working on my muscles to make them more defined, should I have a calorie deficit, surplus or neither?
