Minimum protein intake to build muscle?

From what i understand most studies find no benefit or at least not significant benefit to consuming more then 0.7g per lb of body weight for maximum growth, I am interested to know what the "Minimum" protein requirement is and how other intakes along the spectrum from minimum to most optimal compare, if 0.7g per lb is considered enough to maximize growth then you must be able to eat even less and still get good results, are there any studies showing how lower intakes compare to 0.7g, i am sure the moment you eating under less than 0.7g per lb your muscles don't immediately start falling off, It would be interesting to find out how much of a difference eating less makes in the real world.
