Hey forum! Long time lurker, first-time poster. I'm looking for some solid advice because I'm unsure of what to do. I have been on Keto for a few months and have dropped about 33lbs (started at 230, now 197). My goal weight is around 170. I've always been "thick" and have been told I have a bodybuilders body (not muscle, just short and stocky). I just started going to the gym after many years of being mostly sedentary. So far I love it. I'm beginning the ICF 5x5 this week.
Here's my area(s) of concern:
I'm eating at a big deficit to lose weight. Most days I eat one meal a day (OMAD) that is keto based (low carb). My hope is to get to my goal weight, then increase my calories/macros to maintain. Can I gain muscle mass while eating at a large deficit to lose weight? I've read several (older) articles that state the body will begin eating muscle to sustain itself. But on Keto, isn't fat supposed to do that? I plan on taking Creatine starting next week to help with gains. Even with my macro deficit, I am being able to complete my weight training without having an issue with energy. Should I keep going the way I am now or should I throw in a couple helpings of scrambled eggs (insert easy fat/protein) to help with muscle gain while still losing fat?
Thanks for any advice!
