Most nutrition guides I've read, in addition to eating enough calories/protein, will also mention the importance of a good fat/carb macro distribution. How important is this? To give an exaggerated example, what would happen if most of someone's caloric intake other than protein came from simple carbs and fats assuming vitamin deficiencies weren't an issue or could be corrected w/ supplements? Would this hamper muscle gain in any way?
Another related question: Using the BMR calculator on this site, would lightly active be the most accurate activity level to suggest if you don't get much exercise outside of the gym? I'm currently running the beginner Fierce 5 program for reference.
Thank in advance for any help.
