How do you deal with dinner invites while dieting/watching intake?

I meet all my nutritional needs on my own. Recently, I have been frequently getting invited out to eat by family to extravagant and upscale restaurants. I try to continuously be in a caloric deficit, but these dinner invites always consist of high carb, high calorie meals I wish I could forgo.

Does anyone else here find themselves in similar situations, and how do they handle it?

I’m trying not to be rude, my father came back into my life after a few years recently and we always go out to eat, his treat.
