Hi guys,
I apologize if this post veers off-topic a little bit, I'll try to explain my situation as concisely as I can.
I've been going to the gym off and on for about a year and a half. In that span of time, I made some solid progress before allowing myself to succumb to my depressive, anxious, head-in-ass tendencies. Long story short, I fell off, and lost most of what I worked for (worst feeling ever btw). Recently, I've decided to throw myself back on the saddle, and the only way to do that is to hit the gym and the kitchen hard.
One thing that I noticed, however, is just how expensive everything is. A gym membership in itself is costly, but its a drop in the ocean compared to how much it costs to feed oneself on a bulking diet. If I want to feed myself with good, quality food, I have to be prepared to pay the price, especially when eating the large quantities that my lifestyle would demand. That's not even factoring in the use of supplements, etc.
If I had a normal, well paying job, this wouldn't really be an issue. The thing is, I don't. I'm a 19 year old retail worker still living with parents..my hours are ****ty right now, so may pay checks are usually between 120-200 dollars per week. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know how to manage my money properly. When I was at my worst, I'd blow my entire pay between gas and impulse buys like junk-food, clothes, etc. I'm not proud of it, so I'm trying to get myself together.
So, assuming I can shape up, how can I take a chunk of the money I'm earning right now and invest it into fitness without completely blowing it? When I was bulking up last year, a huge amount of my money went to things like protein powder and "healthy" food purchases like Subway and protein bars. I know there's a better way to do it, I just don't know what to do.
Looking at my situation, I don't have a lot of money. I need to save some of it, I need to pay for gas and car insurance, and soon I'll have to worry about bills and other expenses. How can I realistically use the money I'm making right now to fulfill my current needs, while having some left over for good, healthy food that I can use to bulk up?
With that said, what kind of foods would be cheap, yet high in calories and protein? Could just use some advice from someone who has been in my shoes.
Thanks.
