Resetting during a stall and nutrition manipulation

I implement resets when I stall on an exercise. The resets can last up to 8 weeks before I get back to the weight that I stalled on. Would it be wise during this time to decrease calories somewhat, especially since it seems now the idea is that a surplus is unnecessary to gain muscle mass? E.g., reducing a 300 surplus to 100 calories or perhaps even to maintenance?

I've found it easier to gain strength the larger the surplus, with diminishing returns. When I reset, I was thinking it may be advantageous, in terms of minimizing fat gain, by reducing calories since I don't need the extra calories as I slowly ramp back up to where I stalled on. I would gradually increase calories as I reach my former plateau in an attempt to help me break this plateau.

I'm in my intermediate stage of lifting FWIW.
