penn jillette/cray ray's potato diet

Hey guys.

Just curious on everyone's thought on the potato diet?

To break it down for those that don't know the book/diet:

- straight potatoes for 2 weeks.
- 5 hour eating window.
- cold showers
- after two weeks slowly add in other vegetables, one at a time (roughly run for a week, for each vegetable).
- no meat, no salt, no added fat, no added oil, no processed foods(Penn doesn't completely follow this, he uses hot sauce).
- source food only.

It tends to run at around 1,000 calories.
The goal of the diet is to reset all your cravings and your palette. As well, to lose weight.

He mentions that protein that we eat we don't actually use as protein. We break it down into amino acids...
He then goes on to say that if instead we just had amino acids we would still be getting what we need.
That our body uses these amino acids and with our DNA will recombine to create protein that will be used.
Also, that our body will naturally make amino acids on its own.
We only require essential amino acids.
And, all of these are in a potato.

This is a no exercise diet.

The goal isn't to gain muscle. It is to cut massive amounts of fats from the body.

I would say that it is worth drinking tons of water with this diet. That way you flush any of the excess junk to avoid gall bladder stones. Penn doesn't touch on this, but I did some reading on rapid weight loss and it appears to be a thing.

Just curious what everyone's thought are about this diet?
