My stats
I’m 25 years old
Height 5.7 feet. 174cm
Weight 170 lbs. 77kg
Bf% 17
Lifting for 7 years
The case:
I have gastroesophageal reflux which means stomach acid can flow freely into my esophagus.
I’m getting a GERD surgery for this, which basically means they are going to squeeze my esophagus more tightly when it approaches the stomach. (This is a really basic explanation, what actually happens is more
complex)
The professor I spoke to about this surgery told me that after surgery I’m only allowed to consume fluids. Also she pointed out that I should stop lifting height weights, she considered 20kg bench press (44lbs) as high weights.
This was because she said the pressure build up inside my chest would have the chance to erupt the stitches that where in my esophagus. After that I told her that I wasn’t going to stop lifting she told me that she was going to change the alinement of my esophagus. This would give me a 60% decrement in stomach acid even if the stickers would give out.
My physical therapist, which is also a friend of mine who lifts for competition, told me that if I build a strong core and keep proper form I do not build a lot of pressure inside my chest but in my muscles.
Why I post this?
I would like to know if there are any people that are out there that had this kind of surgery, I would like to hear from somebody who has experience with this.
Also the 3 months period of a fluid diet I’m going to loose a lot of mass, I’m not allowed to workout in this period. Does anyone has some tips for maintaining the most of muscle mass I have. If I maintain a calorie surplus without workout it I’ll get fat if I’m in a calorie deficit I’ll loose a lot of mass in my opinion.
Kind regards.
