friend told me meal timing doesnt matter

if you are insulin resistant meal timing doesnt matter (he said) how can i say otherwise? what studies can i show him that calories>. if calories are everything and meal timing is irrelevant. what if you are insulin resistant? can you still eat before bed and lose welght? explain please
