Reintroducing Caffeine without Causing Dependence

10 days ago, I randomly decided to go-off caffeine (at least almost entirely) by stopping coffee, and having only about 12oz of decaf a day. This was after 10+ years of consistently consuming between 12-20oz of coffee a day, perhaps only stopping if I was sick and didn't want it.

It was a painful, PAINful first week, but after 10 full days I finally feel OK... still crave the 'genuine' coffee flavor/feeling, but no more headache, lethargy, or weird heartbeat changes.

That being said, I would like to be able to drink SOME regular coffee, here and there, without having to deal with the withdrawals if I decided to go off it for a few days or longer.

Is there a recognized amount/frequency wherein you can not have to deal with the hell I put up with in that first week or so? I seriously felt like I had a terrible flu... it was awful.
