Hello everybody!
Age: 21
Height: 5'6''
Weight: 164
BFP: 15-19% (visual estimate)
First of all, I'm new to all this bodybuilding stuff. The reason I'm writing is because I have been having trouble figuring out what's the optimal macro split for me. Before getting into details, here is a little bit of my personal history.
I used to be an athlete from ages 4-18. I played Soccer professionally (13-18) and by age 13 I started lifting weights. I was strong and fast but my main goal wasn't to get bulky. Three years ago I quit soccer and started college. During those three years I got fat. Now, I'm trying to get back on shape.
I was overweight, and over the last fall semester I lost 20 pounds by simply eating healthy foods and going to the gym three times a week. I didn't really know what I was doing (nutritionally) and that resulted in me losing a lot of muscle as well. By last December I was skinny, so I decided to start bulking up (clean bulk). I went from 153lbs to my current weight, 163lbs.
I'm looking much better now, and I'm much stronger. After bulking for a couple months I decided I was ready to start cutting, but I don't really know how to set up my macros. While bulking, I was eating around 3200 calories a day with a 45% carbs, 25% fat, and 30% protein split. Right now, I'm eating 2500 calories and doing 45% carbs, 15% fat, and 40% protein.
To be honest, I don't even know what my ideal weight should be. I'm a short guy with big legs (compared to the rest of my body) and I don't have a lot of fat tissue in the abdominal area. Right now, I go to the gym 6 times a week and because of my past I know what I'm doing, so the training portion is not really an issue. I started doing more compound exercises and adding a little bit of cardio to help me look better.
My goal is to look more muscular by August and then start bulking again for a couple months.
A while ago I used an internet calculator that recommended me to eat 1800 calories to look good by August, but I think that may be too low and I don't want to lose all the muscle I worked really hard to get.
Any comments or suggestions are appreciated. I just want to learn more about all this.
Thank you very much!
