Okay first post here. I usually just lurk around and search for topics, but I figured it's time for some more specific advice. Also, I know there are a bunch of threads and resources out there about how many calories you should eat a day, but I still feel like I need some help here haha.
I am a 20 yr old 5'5" 145lb male. I have been trying to bulk by shooting for around 2500 calories a day. That is usually pretty tough for me to get to and peanut butter usually plays a roll in helping me get there. 2000 calories seems to be what my body is comfortable with and that extra 500 is just from me trying to push myself over the top. I've seen a bunch of articles that say I should be eat 3000 calories a day. I feel like I am putting on weight just slightly but not anything significant.
A little bit about my workout schedule. I do gymnastics 4 times a week for 2.5 hours and then lift for an hour after. I go to a pretty big campus (diameter probably > mile) and walk everywhere. The other 3 days when I don't have practice I will sometimes lift for a bit or go play some squash or football for a couple hours. To note, I am trying to build as much lean muscle as possible while minimizing fat. Every extra pound that isn't muscle will make it that much harder for me to perform a lot of strength exercises especially on rings. So that's definitely important for me. Right now, I have a little bit of bf, but you can see my abs without me flexing. My muscles definitely aren't huge either but I'm just as strong as the gigantic dudes that throw heavy weights around.
So, if you've made it to the bottom I'm basically trying to figure out how many calories I should be eating a day to maximize strength gains. I don't even need to build bigger muscles per say as long as I am continuing to get stronger (although I know there is some correlation). Is 2500 calories enough or should I be eating a hell of a lot more? Thanks! :)
