Hey all,
So I am trying to gain weight, about 1 lb a week or so. As well, I have been working out with focus on my glutes/thighs, 4-5 times a week. I am focusing on gaining weight in these areas.
My calorie counter says I need to eat about 2100 calories a day to gain a pound or so a week. As well, if I log the workouts I have done that day, it subtracts them from my daily total counting them as burned calories.
This confuses me...
Why do I have to eat more to gain weight and also eat more to make up for the calories burned? I thought that was the whole point of upping my calories to gain weight. By working out aren't I just taking those extra calories and converting them to muscle?
This is all very tough for me to balance. I struggle to eat 1500 calories a day, let alone the extreme surplus my app says I should eat. I know I need to eat more calories than is comfortable but I'm not sure how many.
If I need to eat, say, 1800 calories to maintain my weight and they want to add in 400 calories a day to help me gain weight, I can work towards that. But eating even more than that to make up for all the workouts I do seems excessive. And I already drink 2 smoothies a day as part of the 1500-1800 I already consume. I really would like to gain weight fast and consistently, but I guess I need advice as to how much I need to be eating.
