Eating at maintaince

Hey Guys,

I had a question, being that if a person had maintenance calories of 2,000 and hit the gym their body would go through some sort of body re-comped? and if they were to continuing doing this would they lets say "get toned" as when their body has re-comped eating at maintenance they would have some sort of muscle. Going on this theory if they were to eat above their caloric recommendation by say 500 calories and continued going to the gym they would put on some muscle and fat. Further continuing this cycle they were to eat over their maintenance by quite a bit and continue going to the gym they would eventually hit their maintenance calories no matter how high they would be with a good body? Sorry if its confusing but some of you may understand what I am trying to understand.

Cheers,
Curiosity
