If 20% to 30% of protein you consumed is used to help digest it then don't you need more protein?
So if you consume 800 calories worth of protein or 200 grams of protein a day then you will only be really using 560 - 640 of those calories.
It doesn't really affect low amount of protein intake but it does for higher protein intake.
