Abdominal Inflammation and Bodybuilding

Hello guys,

I'm 25 and I accidentally found that I'm having an Abdominal Inflammation. Many people who workout, might have an inflammation of some internal organ which they're not aware of.

My question is, is it OKAY to do bodybuilding while you have abdominal inflammation? Or it's not recommended? What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

What do you think my body fat % is?

I was wondering what my body fat is. I have been cutting and seeing good results, but most of the online calculators say I'm staying at the same body fat% of about 12. Im 190 lbs 5'10 and a half. Thank you in advance.

from Bodybuilding.com Forums - Nutrition https://ift.tt/2SzIPoe

Protein intake

I'm currently cutting and I'm a bit confused from the protein intake, from the protein intake calculator I'm supposed to have 173G protein every day, but
I see people telling me that it's not necessary and I could do 1.0 G protein x my bodyweight which is 149 LBS so meaning
149G Protein. So my question is should I be consuming 149G protein every day or is it suppose to be more? I lift weights 4 times a week and 2 HIIT cardio on off days.

Also is it fine to exceed 200G protein? or should my protein be at 173 maximum and then go higher on carbs/fat to fill out calories?
Stats:

21 year old
149 LBS
Currently around 16% bodyfat

Help! Something is wrong

Don't know where to post this on this forum, couldn't find any sub forums of other men's health forum sites.

I'm 26 years old and for the past couple days I've had the urge to urinate all day. It's been getting better but now I'm noticing my scrotum is tight all the time like it's cold and my testicles are like rising up more. What could cause this ? I don't have health insurance so I'll leave going to the doctor as a last resort option. Has anyone ever had this issue ?

Macronutrients?

Hi all, just after a bit of advice. I have decided to get my A into G and get back into the gym. My current height is 6ft2in and weight is around 300lbs. I train 5 days a week and my current BMR is around 2,581. My goal is to gain lean mass and lose weight without losing any muscle.

This is my current daily intake:

Calories 2,600
Protein 314g (57%)
Carbs 170g (30%)
Fat 70g (13%)

Should I keep going with the above or make any changes?

Are there any very high protein cutting studies?

I know there have been quite a few studies now that have shown losing fat while gaining muscle in a small deficit is possible. Does anybody know what the average protein intake is in these studies? Im wondering if going very high protein 1.5g per lb or more would increase the chances of being able to build muscle while cutting?

IIRC there were some high protein bulking studies that found the high protein groups gained less bodyfat while bulking but i don't recall any high protein cutting studies?

Reverse dieting

Hoping I can find someone to help me!

I was eating around 1300 calories a day and I’m trying to lose weight. I hired a personal trainer/nutritionist to help me and she put me in a reverse diet plan. We got up to 1450 calories and a specific macros.

I unfortunately broke my hand and I am unable to weight lift for 3 months, and with reverse dieting you are suppose to do weight lifting at the same time.

I am not receiving her help anymore because of my broken hand, and I am starving. I need help adjusting my macros without an extreme weight gain.

Is there a nutritionist here that can help me?

Can't eat enough

I am 184cm, 81kg. I started bodybulding 5 months ago and in this whole time i have gained about 13kg. At the first 3 mothns i only counted my proteins and didnt know thay calories are also important and at those months i eat 2500 calories at best in a day but still somehow gained 5kg in the first 3 months. The in december i started eating proper calories about 3000 at least and in these two past moths have gaines 8kg, which is great for me. Now i eat about 3500 calories a day, but the problem is that it is really painful. As a kid i never eat this much, was really skinny, ans now because of this type of eating i feel like puking everyday, 3500 calories is just too much. I live in a poor country with 300 dollars being the avarege salary and i am still in high school and depend on my parents for food. My question is about is this much of calories for me really important, can i go back to atlest 3000, because this is just painful.

Slow clean bulk

Hi people.

I used to lift weights 9 years ago but have now lost lots of my muscle mass and now skinny fat!

5 foot 10, 149 pounds. I have belly fat around my stomach but I have no muscle definition anymore and look very weedy. I think my chest is like 32” which is tiny to compared to what I used to be.

Anyway I’m going to start a slow bulk to gain muscle and will work on the 0.5 lbs a week,

Shall I go for 250 over my tdee and then see how it goes after 2 weeks to see if I am gaining the right amount.

My Tdee says around 2275 based on 1-2 days of light exercise so I was thinking of hitting 2525?

What are the ideal macros too (30/30/40?) and should I be doing 1.5g protein per lb?

Thanks!!

Vegetable proteins - count them?

Hey guys

When eating a relatively low calorie diet on a budget getting enough protein might become a bit of a struggle.

I did notice though that for example a cup of broccoli contains around 3g of protein and 100g of mushrooms contains around 4g of protein and it can accumulate over the day. I can probably add around 15g of protein through vegetables like broccoli, mushrooms, sweet potatoes etc.

But is the quality of those protein high enough to supplement my intake to a significant degree? I tried looking it up but I only find articles regarding grains and legumes that complement each other.

Thanks!

Meal 4 - chicken tray bake or chicken and rice
Meal 5- porridge or protien shake

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Macros question

My daily caloric intake for a day is 1810 calories, going off the nutrition labels. I've double and triple checked my numbers.

Daily macros -
Protein = 190
Carbs = 64
Fat = 98

I understand in order to calculate your percentage/ratio you do the following:

Protein = 190 x 4 = 760
Carbs = 64 x 4 = 256
Fat = 98 x 9 = 882

Adding the above up, you get 1898. Is the 4/4/9 rule rounded? I'm confused as to why per the nutrition label I get 1810 daily calories, but using the method I see everyone else use to determine macro ratios it is higher. Just trying to understand the math. Thanks!

Diet hitting a wall

Hi guy's,

I've been lifting for 3 months now mainly to bulk up and gain weight. My starting weight was around 79kg and now I'm up to 90kg.

Right now for the past 3 weeks I've seem to hit a wall were I've not gained any weight.

My daily goal calorie wise is between 4000 and 5000 calories, generally it has always been hard for me to gain weight.

My current diet looks like this.

First meal: Weight gain shake with mct oil = 1,170 calories

After workout protein shake = 207 calories

Second meal: chicken and white rice = 1216 calories

Third meal: Weight gain shake with mct oil = 1,170 calories

Fourth meal is kind of what ever it can be fish, meat, sandwich, potato's but I always make sure the meal is around 800 to 1000 calories.

So in total I'm consuming 4563 calories minimum a day.

This routine really worked for me at the beginning.

Workout wise I train 4 times a week my job is pretty much a desk job with no physical activity so I know I'm not losing any extra calories there.

My current stats are: 5'11 90kg 18%bodyfat

If anyone can help me or give me some advice as to what could be stopping my weight gain.

Thank you guy's.

Cut vs Bulk

Doing a beginner program (Sl5x5) for about a month now. Started off very weak and I'm skinny fat. I'm still pretty weak. Have read contradicting advice about whether skinny fat people should cut or bulk first.

Started off eating 2300 calories around 200 of which were protein, rest healthy carbs fats but weight didn't change while I was advancing through my weights. Cut down to 2000 a week ago instead to see if I can still advance and I've been able to though I miss a rep here or there. Weight is coming off faster than I expected though. Would you just keep that up and cut to 15 percent body fat over a month or so ( estimating 10 pounds roughly) or would you just get back to eating at maintenance?

I'm hoping especially for advice from someone who succeeded w a skinny fat physique like mine. Currently 184 pounds 6 feet bathroom scale says 18.5 percent body fat.

Bulking macros for smaller guy

Hi guys

I am a 19 year old male, almost 5'11", 145 lbs, and around 11-12% body fat. I am looking to do a clean bulk and put on as little fat as possible. My maintaince calories are around 2600, and I am eating between 2900 and 3100 calories a day. I work out 6 days a week and do 4 days of cardio but consider myself a beginner lifter.

I eat a pretty healthy diet, with mostly whole grains, lots of vegetables, minimal added sugar, and only lean protein. But I am not exactly sure what my macros should look like. I am thinking 55% carbs (400 g), 25% protein (182 g), and 20% fat (65 g). Does this seem about right for minimal fat gains? If not, what do you guys recommend? Thanks.

Is my diet good for lean bulking?

I always hear people talk about don’t worry about supplements just get your diet on point and the results will come. So I’m giving that a try and I have been eating the following everyday for the past few weeks.
Morning
2 slices of bread
1 serving oatmeal
2 banana
Lunch
8oz chicken thigh
2 cups rice
1 banana
Second Lunch
8oz chicken thigh
2 cups rice
1 banana
Dinner
8oz chicken thigh
2 cups rice
1 banana
Snacks
4 scoops protein powder
1 banana

This comes out to around 3,400 calories which I think is about 300 above my maintnance: 250g protein, 430g carb, and 80g fat

Is this good for getting big and staying lean?

Is 1800 calories too low for a cut?

I’m 16 years old 5”7 159lbs and I do a 6 day a week LPP LPP program. I’m novice in all lifts. Outside of the gym, the only exercise I do is about 8000 steps of walking. I noticed I am losing strength on my overhead press , bench and squats. The reason I’m cutting is because I thought back to the main reason why I started lifting in the first place and it’s because I wanted to look lean and muscular and I’m pretty chunky in my thighs and belly area ( I have a little bit of love handle action going on). Further into my workouts, I could only complete 8 ****ty reps compared to 12 on some exercises. I think this might be a sign of not enough glycogen. Do you think I should up my calories? And by how much? What should my macros be? I want to lose minimal strength and muscle on this cut.

What to take out of diet?

Hi, I can’t decide what to take out from my diet to lower calories.

Age 16
145lb
Bulking
I maintain on 2800-3k but am eating 4K calories a day.

I don’t know what to remove from my diet because if I remove one thing then my protein will lower and if I remove something else carbs will get lower.

What I eat everyday(same thing)

6:00am: Milk250ml Eggs2
7:00am: Gym
8:00am: Tuna

In school: Peanuts(150gram 877cals), Chicken Breast, Rice 1/2bag

4:00pm: Gym

5.50: Milk(500ml with one scoop protein & creatine), Toast, cheese ham

7:00: Steak, Rice 1/2bag, Milk(250) Oil and butter on steak and rice(180cals)

9: Cookie( big one about 450cals)

I don’t know what to remove to lower my calories to 3,500 to gain a pound a week.

So in few months, I will reach my goal (bodyfat-muscle-weight) and for that moment, I will stay the same how much I can.I know a lot of ppl will gonna tell me to keep moving forward with another bulk but this is my dream goal and I want staying that way.
I will hit the gym of course like I used too, nothing will change just only my kcal per day so I was wondering how much protein should I eat in order to keep the muscle?
Still 1g/lb (2g/kg)?

I recently bought one of those sistema lumchbodes because they say that there BPA and phthalate free, however I heard that even those can still contain chemicals that have the same effects as BPA such as BPS. Does anyone know if sistema plastics contain any xenoestrogens? I'm pretty sure they're made of something called polyolefins.

What do you guys snack on?

Usually my main lunch is only 300-400 calories, so I keep some Lance crackers in my desk. They're 200 calories a pack so they easily fill up any remaining calories left over.

I want to add some variety to my snacks that I keep in my desk, so I was wondering what you guys use to snack on that has a decent amount of protein/carbs.

Specifically things that are available at Walmart or Food Lion would be great.

unable to meet daily zinc requirement

male
21
101 pounds
5'7

i use this app called healthifyme to track my macro and micro nutrients.

im meeting my calorie intake along with macro nutrients and most micro nutrients EXCEPT ZINC.

its value is stuck at 1.2mg which is quite lesser than the daily zinc requirement which is around 11 mg a day for men. I searched zinc rich foods in google and tried to add various combinations of those food which i could afford or eat to the log to see if it value will improve but even after my best try the change was from 1.2mg to 3mg.

i was curious to see what my zinc intake was when i was following my previous unbalanced diet so i filled it out and found out i was only taking 0.3mg

could i have found the reason of my being so underweight?

anyway what do you guys think?

should i get a zinc supplement?
should i go take a zinc deficiency test?
should i just take 1.2 or 3mg a day?

any help will be appreciated, thank you.

Need help hitting calorie goal..

Hi! This will be my first post here and I’m a noob at nutrition so flame me all you want as I’ve seen that it’s common here.

I’ve been working out for ~5 years on and off. I did workout 5-6 days/week two years ago due to an acl injury though. But at that time I worked out for strength and not bodybuilding due to playing american football. So I just ate everything I could to get bigger. Now that I’ve torn it again I’m back in the gym forever since I can’t play sports anymore.

Right now I’m 191cm tall and I weigh 90.5kg. My goal is to get down to 80-85kg by June and at that time have visible gains in musclemass. I can get the whole workout part right but nutritionwise I’m an infant.

I’m using MyFitnessPal to track my calorie intake and I used an IIFYM website to get my number of calories/day. According to the IIFYM website I should eat 2400cal/day to lose 0.8-1kg/week.

My issue:

I eat a 324cal breakfast consisting of 3 medium skzed eggs on 3 ”Swedish rye bread” (we call it knäckebröd but idk what it’s called in english). With a pinch of salt for added taste. I’m assuming this is where the issue starts.

For lunch and dinner I eat an added amount of 400g of chicken, I measure 1.6dl of uncooked rice and cook it and I drink two protein shakes over those two meals that add upp to 74g of protein powder. These two meals combined give me 1212cal.

864cal is missing and I don’t know what to add so that I reach my goal. I understand that I should eat more during my breakfast but should I go as far as eating a 500cal+ breakfast?

What foods/snacks can I eat to freach my goal?

As I stated earlier, I am a total infant when it comes to nutrition and I don’t even know if 2400cal is too much or too little. I’m 191cm and weigh 90.5kg as of now. Atleast I’ve lost .5kg over three days.

Edit: I read that I should multiply my calorie goal that I get from iifym by 0.9. That gives me 2100cal instead of 2400. So I’m only missing 566.

Starter and Diet/Workout

Hi all,

New here, excited to get started on building muscle and just feeling better about myself. Plus looking forward to getting more knowledge on fitness itself.

My goal is to increase strength and and visually look toned and sleek. I'm mainly looking more advice on diet and workouts. When it comes to the gym the weights area is quite daunting to me and I was wondering if there is a plan I could do at home and I do have a set of weights, obviously I know it wont be quite the same but as a starter I do think it could help.

I've seen its best to list your details, so they are as follows:

Age: 28
Weight: 72kg
Height: 5ft 8in
Body Type: Average

Current Diet:
Breakfast: 1 cup of tea
Lunch: Steamed vegetables & chicken breast
Dinner: Steamed vegetables & can of tuna
Snacks: Handful of nuts, fruit
5 Litres of water throughout the day + 2-3 cups of coffee

Workout: 4 times a week on cardio (Rowing machine/Cross trainer/Treadmill/Stepper)

I've calculated the daily meal and it comes out to roughly 640 calories, which I'm am surprised at but not shocked (if that makes sense).

P.S Sorry if this is in the wrong section

how does one eat more and meet caloric goal

Hello everybody I am currently on a marine corps base, and weigh about 150 lbs. my main problem is that i struggle to eat as much food as I need to. prior to boot camp I weighed about 180 lbs I found success in eating constantly throughout the day I would bring egg salad and 6 PB&J's to school with me damn near every day, this was the only way I could fit the food I needed to into my struggle. I lost all the weight whilst getting sick at boot camp and have struggled to put it on ever since. I believe that my main downfall is that I cant receive the calories I need to with only 3 sittings per day. I still am going to the gym everyday except Monday's. So I ask if anyone has knowledge on ways that I can be able to eat more with only 3 sittings, whether it be by tricking my body into feeling more hunger stretching out my stomach in some way or by eating differently with whats provided in able to reach my necessary caloric intake.

more about me: I am a naturally skinny person and even when I weighed 180 I looked similar to how i do now. I am very active and exercise 2x a day during the week once with my platoon in the mornings which mainly consists of cammie runs and longer pt gear runs, and then again in the afternoon which consists only of weight lifting. At home I averaged about 3,500 - 4,000 calories a day with moderately slow weight gains. at the time I had been practicing sports year round and then weight lifting afterwards.

Thank you to all that reply have a great day.

Lactaid milk GOMAD dangerous cholesterol ?

This has probably been asked on here a lot but I don’t visit or post on here often

I would also love it if you stayed away from GOMAD sucks it’ll only make you fat conversation (which is why the skinny people who do it, do it)

My question however is with drinking Lactaid and noticing how much cholesterol it has in its half gallon bottle. I’ll onl be doing half gallon because it’s what I can afford, and also lactaid because I’m lactose intolerate.

Has anyone ever did GOMAD on lactaid before? Should I be wary of all that cholesterol ? Should I switch to soy milk ? Is my username pointless ?

Bulking and Cutting Numbers, Need Opinions!

I am wrapping up my first bulk this week and heading into my first cut. I would like to share my bulking macros and my cutting macros and get some opinions on what needs to be changed or if I need more or less of something. My bulk lasted from beginning of November to today. I started out at 175 lbs with 20% BF.

Weight: 190-195lbs
BF: 22%
Height: 5'10

Bulk
Protein: 202
Fat: 105
Carbs: 332
Total Cal: 3020
Cardio: none

Cut
Protein: 216
Fat: 47g
Carbs: 279
Total Cal: 2379
Cardio: 5 days a week. Stair steppers, battle ropes, Burpees, etc

I am under the impression that when you go into a calorie deficit, you want to up yoru protein intake to 1-1.2g per lb. Obvioulsy this is different from person to person, but that is where I got that number from. I understand my protein was a little high during my bulk. I can also add some carbs for calories easy if need be.

Can't cut anymore calories! What do I do?

Hey guys, so I recently made a post stating that I was dieting and for some strange reason I couldn't drop a single pound, even though my carbs were low. My macros were around 70c/40f/120p at the time, and I have been doing about 4-5 days of cardio for 200-300 cals. After that I dropped my carbs even more and finally began starting to lose weight. I am 23 years old, 5'7, 155.4 pounds; I started my diet at 160.

So I have a 2 part question:

1. This is my third time dieting, and I've always heard that you should keep a certain set of macros unchanged at a calorie deficit and you will consistently lose weight for a few weeks with the exact same macros. However, I've noticed over the past 4 years that my body doesn't behave like that. If I make a macro change, it will drop maybe a pound the next day and then stop. If I keep the same macros for the next few days/weeks, my weight doesn't change and sometimes it actually goes up. If I have a random day of sports fun where I burn a lot of extra calories, I will drop 1-2 pounds the next day. But if I try to replicate that to continue losing weight, the weight won't budge. I never understood this, why the hell does this happen? I know you guys are experts and mostly likely have more experience than me, so I need your help with this. I've never read or heard anyone else have these same circumstances.

This leads to my main problem:

2. Because of the one time weight change for a specific macro and the fact that my carbs were low to begin with for a calorie deficit, my carbs have dropped so low that it is affecting my recovery, and my strength in the gym. I have little carbs left and I don't want to reduce them to just eating salad, not to mention I am doing 4-5 days of cardio of 200-300 cals per session. What am I supposed to do? What do you do when you have no more macros to play with? If I reset them, won't I gain weight and basically end up where I started.

Gaining weight with bulk

Hi guys, I’m pretty new to bodybuilding and about a month ago I started a bulk which is primarily with me eating 3 eggs, oats for breakfast and a lot of dam chicken breast. I’m a pretty skinny guy and when I started, I was about 130 pounds. After about a month I became 134-135. I’ve been hitting the gym 5 times and increasing my weights by week. After a month or two should I reduce the amount of pounds I gain per month to about 2 and would I just do this by reducing calories? Thanks!

Need help on cutting diet, High protein/fat.

I am currently cutting right now and am trying to eat a high fat high protein diet like I've been doing. The only difference now is, I'm eating 2000 calories. I feel that limits me a lot as to what I could eat. Starting tomorrow I planned to eat

Breakfast:
1.5oz bacon
4 eggs

Lunch/Pre workout
3oz peanuts
Green tea+1.5tbs coconut oil

Dinner
30oz chicken

I eat a lot for my last meal so I dont go to be hungry. My macros for this is 218p/16c/119f
What do you guys think?

The chicken is obviously the most expensive part of my diet, but overall it's cheap. I've ate around this much chicken since bulking and now cutting.

Losing way to much weight

Hello,
This is my first thread on Bodybuilding.com.
I am a 17 year old kid, I'm 1.78 (5'10) and weigh around 67kgs (149 pounds).
I have been working out since november of last year and ive been bulking since. I weighed 61kgs in januari and then i came up to 68 at my peak.

However

Since yesterday when i got on the scale it said that i've gone down to 65kgs. I don't know why i've gone down this much since i haven't done anything diffrent with my food eating.

I have however switched up my way of working to calisthenics due to a damaged thumb. Could that be a reason due to my weightloss?

I am really bad at writing im sorry.

thank u

Have just started with nutrition/macros - am I on the right path?

Only on Friday I found out about nutrition/macros. I thought I was eating right beforehand, but maybe not eating enough, and not being careful enough.
Since then, I've read through the stickies and want to make sure I'm on the right path.

I'm 30yo, 198lbs, 6ft3
I do 3hrs of gym 3x a week
10x 100m sprints 3x week
5km walks every day
Sit at a desk all day for work

I'm reasonably fit, but I've got a bit of a belly and some lovehandles. I'd like to lose these, but I think maintaining my weight is good (losing belly, putting on muscle)
I did a quick measurement thing online, and it said I'm 25% body fat.

My goal is to build my leg muscles up substantially (doing ACL rehab). Upper body is a nice bonus.

Based on all that, I chose intermediate exercise + maintain weight, which gave me 3000 calories.
I divided it up 40% carbs, 30% protein/fat

Am I on the right path? Does 3000 calories sound correct?
2 days in, I feel so dam full and there's so much food, which is crazy to me cos I've always loved food!

So just wanted to check in before I keep going.
