IIFYM or slipping back to my old ways?

I've been working out and eating "clean" since August this year and making great progress. I'm eating wholesome foods and tracking my daily calories and macros.

One thing I have been doing the last couple of weeks is eating less carbs during the day (things I never enjoyed that much anyway, such as brown rice, wholemeal pitta bread, etc) and eating more fat and protein. I'll often have a large bowl of fruit and yoghurt or homemade popcorn in the evening to make up for the carbs I haven't been eating in the day.

Anyway, that is working well for me with no drop in energy levels, however yesterday I bought a chocolate cream cake and it fit into both my daily calorie allowance and my protein and fat macros. Today I have my meals planned out and I have 240 odd calories spare (after hitting my macros) so I'm thinking I could have a donut or something similar. I know this is classed as discretionary calorie allowance (or IIFYM) but what I'm wondering is, whether this becomes a slippery slope. I used to eat cakes, candy and chocolate big time (large quantities, every night) and whilst I do miss them, equally I don't want to end up back there again with one donut a week, turning into one donut a day, turning into 3 donuts a day.

Please share with me your thoughts!
