A little background- I have been lifting for years and have a basic understanding how to apply macros and maintain a deficit to cut or have more calories to get stronger for myself. I understand that. However, a couple months ago my wife asked me if she could start lifting and dieting with me. She has never lifted, only has done some cardio, and never played sports. She is about 5'3 and 155 lbs so she has a good amount of fat to lose(which is her goal for sure). It is going to take her awhile to reach her goal, but she is also very weak. If she is in a deficit to lose fat for a very long time, is she going to be able to get stronger? Right now she eats about 1600 calories a day, which is very easy for her since she does not eat a lot.
Right now she looks to me for advice on this, but I am not sure if this is the best course of action. Any thoughts?
