Skinny guy needs help with diet/meal plans

Hey everyone. I have been lifting consistently for around a year now and am finding that I am plateauing with my lifts. I weigh a mere 120lbs and am 5ft 6 at 30 years old. I lift at my local bouldering gym, there is a little power rack there. I started out with stronglifts 5x5, now do a variant of starting strength 3x5. My lifts are:

Squats 3x5 - 170lbs
Bench 3x5 - 130lbs
Overhead Press 3x5 - 90lbs
Deadlift 1x5 - 225lbs
Weighted Chin Ups 3x5 - 40lbs

I used to weigh 130lbs when I did stronglifts. I had to kill myself with eating to get to that weight and really didn't have much more strength than I do now, not much anyway. I felt kinda bloated at that weight and slower, I looked bigger but less agile. I have also started to climb after my lifting (3/4 times a week). I want to know if there are any diets and that for skinny guys that want to get stronger, a bit bigger, but in a slow and healthy way. I also have stayed around these numbers in my lifts for around 4 months now. I know it must be my diet mainly. I mean, I'm open to changing my routine a little but I am limited in terms of different exercises I can do as I only really have the power rack and climbing walls.

Any skinny guys, (or better yet former skinny guys!) know of any good diets to follow? Ideally more protein than carbs. The plan is to look like Bruce Lee. Not Arnie..

Very Hungry After Workout- normal?

Hi y’all. Newbie and first time poster. I’ve recently started lifting weights and noticed my appetite has increased.

Can someone please explain why? Like, muscles are hungry so feed more?

Background: I have spent the last 7 months losing weight to get to a normal weight. Formally 166 down to 139 at 5’4 (female).

I lost weight by counting and restricting calories. But now I am interested in getting muscular and I am struggling with the concept of introducing more calories into my diet.

2 days into my cut and i am losing strength please help me out

So I am 5'10 , 189lbs , have small bone structure, 6'5 inch wrists. So naturally, i will look a lot heavier with that body weight than someone with a bigger bone structure. I can bench 225 for 5 reps, squat 315 for 5 reps and over head 135lbs for 5 reps. Very intermediate numbers. The only problem is i got pretty fat, i naturally carry most of my fat in my stomach area and my love handles are last to go but now even my face is getting pretty chubby so i know I need to cut. I just do not want to lose all this hard earned gains i have made. My body fat is definitely pretty high tho. So, I started to eat at a slight deficit of 300 calories but the weight scale did not move for 3 days straight! So i got pretty annoyed and i started to eat at 500 calorie deficit and the next 2 days after that the weight scale showed me at 185lbs! thats a 4lbs loss all of a sudden.. But this messed up my performance in the gym.. I tried to bench today and i could only bench 225 for 3 reps.. normally i could do 5 on a good day. And also my head kinda hurt due to hunger and lack of energy.

Should I go back to eating at a 300 caloric deficit? why wasn't the weight scale changing when i did that? Should i more passioned?
also yes i am eating enough protein, i try to hit at least 180g of protein a day and i get 8hrs of sleep and never feel sleepless.

Please have mercy on me when responding, if this has been posted before i apologize i just need answers from experienced people such as in this forum, i am also aware of how passionate and straight forward some members are on here so i must ask you to please NOT to roast me too hard. Thank you.

Meal plans for delivery drivers

Hello everyone.

I am having a problem with my diet at the mo, I have recently started to work for a delivery company in the UK and I do t have much time to eat during the day.

So I have been grabbing just about anything out of the local shops, which has not been helping at all.

Is there any suggestions of what I could get that is easy enough to prepare, survive a hot van cab and that I can eat between delivery stops (sometimes only a couple of minutes)

How much protein do you really need?

I ask this question because there seems to be so many different viewpoints on this. Some say you only need about 0.7g per pound of bodyweight and some say you need as much as 1.5g per pound of bodyweight?

So how much do you really need? Does it change when you want to put on size as opposed to just maintaining and staying lean?

How long should I bulk for

So I'm 19 and been working out for >1 year. Gaining strength came slow so I decided in the last couple months to just eat a ton of food with a general idea of how much protein I'm getting. I take in about 180gs protein a day, and about 3500 calories. Bench went from 140 to 200 and squat went from 180 1RM to 225 for reps, but the fat has been coming too, sitting at about 185lbs when I was 155lbs. So I seem to gain fat and muscle pretty quick but only with a lot of calories, but eventually I want that 6 pack. How long should I bulk for? I'm thinking about cutting down when I hit like 210ish lbs.

Weight gain plateau

Hey everyone.

I’m 5’10” and 147lbs. I strength train 3 days a week and I’m trying to bulk to 160 by the end of the year.

One problem - I’m eating 3,500 calories a day with a 40-30-30 macro split and I’m STILL not gaining weight. My metabolism is very fast.

Should I be eating more than 3,500 calories? What are some things I can do to gain weight faster?

Hi
Am 49 and I've been working out for two yrs. when I started I was 95KG in weight and my waist was 40. Today am about 82, 83 and my waist is 34, but am not gaining in muscles. I mean if you look at me, you cannot say that I've been working out. How can I gain weight?

Okay so I’m having a extremely hard time gaining weight with my current lifestyle. I’m 6’3 and around 165lbs so I’m pretty skinny. But my problem is every day I lift weights for about an hour, then go work asphalt in the heat for 8-9 hours, and THEN go to boxing class for two hours. I’m really wanting to put on 20-30lbs in the next 3 months but how can I consume enough calories to gain that much weight that fast with this lifestyle? I really appreciate any feedback/advice!

Doubt about best way to continue

Hello guys, so thats my situation! I started cut 50 days ago. Went from 73,6kilos to 69,8 kilos (today). I estimated my tdee around 1950calories and actually i am at 1650 daily. Macros are 120 CHO, 53 FAT, 172 PRO.
The point is i am not losing weight from 2 weeks ( i was 69,6 after 36days). So now i have 2 streets i guess. Go low in calories (i think they are at minimum that i can have so i wouldnt like to do that), or make a load of carbo (wich i would like to restore a bit myself in energy..i am not so low but..)
Wich is the best way to do that? Do just 1 day? 3 days? 1 week? and to do that, how many calories i need to consume? Around maintenimece (so around 1950) or more around bulky(like 2250/2300)?
Beyond that i posted my photo in the bf thread and tucane said me i am around 10% ( ithink something more but its ok), so i guess i will start with a bulk soon. Probably will do other 10 days of cut or something more (not so much). After that i would like to know wich is the best way to go out from a bulk ( i think i will open another 3d for have more clearly answer and dont mix up the things)

Question about intermittent fasting and crossfit?

I've been doing crossfit on and off for about 4 years. Pretty solid last year and half straight. I work nights so I'm to bed around 5-6am and up 1-2pm. My normal routine has been wake, breakfast and coffee, then crossfit at 4:30pm.

I'm wondering, if I try the intermittent fasting, when would be my ideal hours of fast? Can it be done safely on my schedule? I assume I need calories going into my workout, so my fast time then ideally would be 10pm-2pm the following day? And eat from 2pm (my breakfast time say and then do my workout with food in my system) until 10pm, fast again rinse and repeat?

I can't cook at home, what are the cheapest takeout food options with protein?

For reasons I can't explain I cannot cook at home, this includes making my own protein shakes. I still want to build strength and I understand that your diet has a lot to do with it. What are the best cheap takeout options? I'm trying to budget around $250 / month. At the moment I've been going to Taco Bell and getting the Chalupa Craving Boxes because MyFitnessPal says there's 49g of protein in each meal (for around $6). I've also been going to Walmart and buying protein snacks which cost $1.50 and has 15g of protein (sometimes I get 2), as-well bought Muscle Milk which is around $1.50 each and has 25g of protein. Which brings the total to 89-104g of protein per day and around $9-13. This is is beyond my budget and if there is room to be frugal I want to be. Can anyone recommend anything that is cheap that does not have to be made at home?

Working out causing depression?

Hi guys

would like some opinions on this. I've been working out for a while and i'm starting to think that weight lifting is giving me depression.

For example yesterday I felt good all day. Good energy, happy, motivated. etc

Yesterday I went to the gym. I was super pumped so had a 2 hour workout. A lot of sets and heavy lifting.
After wards I started feeling depressed, headache and tired. That night I hardly slept and felt over stimulated. Now the next day I feel depressed tired and headache. This happens all hte time.

is this a nutrtion or training issue? or just in my head?

Skinny Fat Beginner, please help!

Age 31, Male, Height 5'11, Weight 76kg (165 pounds)

Hi Guys, I've wasted many many years not working out as also not quite sure what to do. Have dabbled in working out but always seem to lose motivation after 3 months. This time is going to be different. My issue is I am skinny (arms, chest, legs etc) but have developed a bit of fat on the chest and especially abdomen (not a massive abdomen but looks more pronounced because I'm skinny elsewhere and have a bit of ant pelvic tilt)

Diet is where I really struggle. I can eat like a horse (3-4K calories a day is easy for me) but not sure whether I should be bulking or cutting or doing something in between. And not sure on how I should be structuring my meals (in terms of macros etc)

I will be doing a beginner programme such as Allpro / Fierce 5. Also not sure how much cardio I need to do?

Calculating bulking macro's and not making progress

Hi!

I started working out a while ago. I used the P.H.U.L (Power Hypertrophy Upper Lower) Workout from muscleandstrength.com and made some reasonable strength gains during the first two months. For the last two months, I have not seen any progress on any of the exercises even though I have not made changes to the way I train. What could I be doing wrong? I try to focus on form to make sure I do every exercise correctly. A possible problem could be my nutrition since I am unsure what macro's are good for a lean bulk. I am currently 182cm and 69kg.

After stepping on the scales at my local gym today I was presented with the figures that I was 24% body Fat weighing 97KG (213 pounds). From this I was looking for advice whether to cut or to continue bulking to gain size and muscle based of the pictures attached. If needed to help your opinion I am 20 years old, 6ft 4 and am currently 7 months into consistent training having started at 84.8kg (187 pounds) about 10 months ago.

Need help with post workout carbs

Hi Guys,

I used to take extreme carbs powder with my protein after workout but i dont know it adds a lot of water retention. so instead i am taking protein + banana + oat sultas peach mix .. all grinded together.. Is that enough? i dont seem to be gaining size .. i am eating more carbs during day also .. Please can anyone tell me what they take and have seen results?

Should I go down to 7-9% bodyfat or start a lean bulk early??

I have been lifting for only about 7 months with proper nutrition, sleep, hydration etc. and did two bulks with a cut in between during November to April and started my most recent cut in late May. I’m a fairly new lifter and am wondering if I should put on more size as an ectomorph through another lean bulk or just cut down further to about 7-9 for the remaining summer??. I’m 18 years old and 173 cm in height.

What does cottage cheese taste like?

I read that it tastes like salty cheese, or if you get the low fat version, a lot more like sour cream.

I saw some cottage cheese today in the grocery store that had strawberry flavor and vanilla flavor.
I'm not a fan of raw cheese flavors, nor am i a fan of plain sour cream.
Do you think i will like it?

It had 20 grams of protein, 2% fat and only 160 calories. So the nutrition is really great.
Anyone ever here tried flavored cottage cheese? Is it anything like yoghurt?

What's a good post workout snack for weight loss?

I'm vegan (recently transitioned from vegetarian) and I'm trying to figure out a good, simple snack to have within 30 minutes of finishing my workouts since breakfast is always a couple of hours away from then.

I was drinking chocolate milk and thought about almond chocolate milk but read that it doesn't meet the 4:1 ratio. I would love to drink my post snack but I'm not into smoothies and such.

Any ideas? Thanks!
