Does dietary cholesterol even do anything

cholesterol is the first step of the hormones chain. i see websites/people all the time say 'eat more eggs for the cholesterol it'l turn into testosterone'.

i'm pretty sure dietary cholesterol doesn't do chit. it's only the cholesterol that your body produces is what turns into hormones

anyone actually know with certainty?
