I see a lot of people thinking online calculators are best for counting maintenance calories, while those are certainly good starting point, they are far from accurate.
Each and everybody is different, same goes for maintenance calories.
You will need around 2 weeks to count your maintenance calories, although after this point you will be quiet confident in taking the journey of reaching your goal physique.
Here is what i did to count my own.
1. Calculated my maintenance from any of the online calculators
2. Eat in 500 deficit because i wanted to loose weight
3. Weigh myself every morning just after taking a bath
4. Eat roughly same food every day(to minimize error in counting or atleast around same carb content so that water weigh affects you
the least)
5. After 1 week, take average of all weigh ins
6. After 2nd week,take another average
subtract the two weigh ins,the answer you get can be used to determine your real maintenance.
If you get get 1 pound while trying to loose weight, then congrats your maintenance is same as one predicted,if not just adjust by knowing that 1 pound of fat=3500 calories.
for me though it was quite same(predicted 2350,got around 2400).
