Glycogen stores

I know this site recommends .8g protein and .4g fat per pound of lean body weight as minimums. Carbs are considered non-essential.

I understand your body doesn’t technically need carbs to sustain life but is it optimal to give no minimum intake standard to carbs? Don’t you have to replenish your glycogen stores?

When you bench press on a 5x5 program let’s say...don’t you tap into those carbs stored in your muscles for the quick bust of energy that you’ll need to knock out 5 reps? Or is this overrated?
