How often do you screw up your calorie surplus?

I had an upper-body workout that I was really proud of yesterday. However, I also did a run and went to work. I ate 3,550 cal's which is more than usual but woke up to find that I lost 1.2# pounds. Now I'm worried that I'm going to be weaker time. I'm especially worried because it was a bench press day.

On top of that, I often find that I either accidentally hit a caloric deficit, or I'll eat too much and gain a pound or two during a clean bulk.

Is this something other people struggle with? I know that I was advised to worry more about 7 day averages than day to day changes in weight, but I'm still worried.
