Protein and nutrition question

I am 18 years old at 6'3 and have currently lost 30 pounds from 260 -> 230. I have to take a prescription that kills my appetite so protein shakes along with my meals really help me to sustain my muscle mass and still get progressive gains while losing weight. I've been using isopure protein because I've had the mentality of needing to cut weight but I am not getting enough calories/protein/carbs in to make the weight loss gradual and healthy as of the past 1.5 months. Would I be able to replace the light protein mix with a gainer shake but still be losing weight? It seems like it would be doing the opposite effect but it may be different in my case because of my lower than normal calorie intake.
