How much weight to gain?

Complete newbie here, looking to build muscle.
From what I’ve heard 2lbs of muscle a month is a realistic goal for a complete beginner. Is that the total amount of lean weight? Or is that just the muscle not including water weight etc. If it isn’t, how much lean weight would be possible? and how much weight should I eat to gain including muscle and fat to get the best results?
