Every sports nutrition store and every nutrition website stocks it.
I bought and consumed, out of sheer curiosity, two jars of natural peanut butter - smooth and crunchy and then bought another jar of crunchy peanut butter - which I expect, will be my last jar - given that I am now bored of it.
But considering everything from a nutritional point of view:
-A whooping 600 calories per 100 grams and the majority of those calories come from fat with a miniscule amount of protein, (around 30% of calories from peanut butter come from protein) which doesn't make such a difference anyway given the fact that my diet is already heavy in complete sources of protein (easily more than 1.5 g per lb of bodyweight). Peanut butter isn't even a complete source of protein.
-I already get enough fats in my diet (around 90-100 grams of fats and sometimes more)
-I am aware that peanut butter contains the healthy fats….but I do consume olive oil and sunflower oil on a daily basis when I cook.
-Peanut butter also has a high proportion of Omega 6s as opposed to Omega 3s, making it inflammatory in nature which would explain why it (somewhat rarely) irritates my face.
-Sure peanut butter is great for bulking and putting on lots of mass, but I lift for aesthetics nowadays and since I can bench more than my bodyweight AND be lean at the same time - I don't appreciate peanut butter temporarily robbing me of leanness and giving me a somewhat bulkier look.
So the question is what good does peanut butter actually do for you? Why is it so reverred?
I am grateful for any opinions/advice on this matter.
