Lean bulk vs only increasing calories when lifts stall

Hi all
I recently finished a 4 week minicut, and have been eating at maintenance this last week. My main goal now is to gain muscle, but I want to keep my gains as lean as possible, as I really dislike cutting. I want to eventually get a decent physique at about 12-15% body fat, and then just maintain it.
I was going to start a lean bulk tomorrow, aiming to gain about 1lb per month, but I’ve been thinking:
Instead of aiming for a certain amount of weight gain per month, would a better method be to just eat as many calories as needed to keep my lifts increasing?
So for example: eat at maintenance till most of my lifts stall, then bump up my calories by 100, repeat.
If my lifts are increasing, even if I’m eating at maintenance, then surely that means I’m gaining muscle right?
Would this be a good strategy to make lean gains?
