I've been using intermittent fasting for a few months now, it fits well into my current schedule and I'm feeling better than ever. I'm not here to talk about my experience but to discuss the options of working out while fasted or fed.
I believe that for most people, like myself, the main goal in IF is fat loss, I wonder what would be the outcome of working out (cardio/strength) fasted, would muscle mass be in harm's way if you do either exercises fasted in the morning for instance and break your fast at noon (let's say about 5 hours post-workout).
My main source of info is Dr. Jim Stoppani who I feel is credible in my opinion, he advises breaking your fast with your post-workout shake, meaning not much longer than shortly after your workout (and doing so after a fasted workout), he mentions in his website "If you train in the morning but ending your feeding window in the late afternoon is too early for you, you could postpone your postworkout shake by 2-3 hours. It's not ideal for maintaining muscle mass, but it certainly won't hamper fat loss."
