How far apart do you space your meals?

If you believe in the theory that you can only build muscle with/synthesize so much protein at a time. If you believe the theory that if you smash 150 grams of protein in a protein shake at once, only 30 grams of it will go to building muscle. How do you know when you can have another 30 grams of protein? If it's "per meal," how do you know when the first "meal" is over and you can start another one? The thinking tends to be you can't just start a new "meal" immediately after the last one, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on when the next "meal" starts, just that it should be "a while later."
