Post-Workout Shake For Pre Diabetic

I just found out that I am pre-diabetic (the lowest number of technically pre-diabetic you can be) so doctors tell me to watch my carbs, especially simple carbs.

I am also just getting back into the gym after a few years. Would you guys recommend 1:1 whey:dextrose still (since 1:2 would probably not be wise in this situation) or would you just do the whey itself? Also a question I always had was, is it 1:1 grams of protein to grams of sugar? Or grams of actual whey to grams of actual dextrose (which is not the same).
