Need some help getting started.

hello community ok so I'm almost 40 years old male. My body just ain't what it use to be I am currently 240 lbs and 5'11". I've never had a six pack but was always in above average shape. While I'm not fat today I'm definitely chubby and I have a gut and I hate it. Id like to lose atleast 40lbs but 55lbs would be awesome. I remember how much it work it took back in the day to get there but now that I'm older and out of shape I'm terrified by the idea but I got to get going at some point. I definitely know I can't eat or drink like I have been if I have any hope of getting there. There are so many different diets and each one says the other is bad so don't know which to start with or which is ideal. If you can please give me a realistic diet and work out plan I can start with. I would like to lose 5lbs a week and I will work out hard once I get back into it. Reason why I'm confused is bc before when I worked out I was bulking so the diet was pretty easy lol just a lot of protein.
