Help With Lean Bulk Macros

Hey guys and girls. So a few weeks ago I made a commitment to myself to get ripped or die trying. Over the past few years my weight has fluctuated down and up, but my real challenge has been a skinny fat build. So I decided I would cut first in an effort to get to <15% body fat, and then bulk followed by another phase of cutting down the road. I just completed a 3 week keto diet, with a caloric deficit of about 20% plus cardio and was able to lose about 13 pounds of fat.

Started off at 183 20-25% body fat

Currently I weight 170lbs at 15% body fat (6”3 21yr male)

OK so here’s the problem, I am seeing so much conflicting information about high fat diets or really high carb diets. I don’t want to choose the wrong macros for a lean bulk and end compromising the fat loss I achieved. I am aware that in any bulk there will be some fat gain. This is why I set my new caloric intake at 11% surplus at 2500 calories, that way the fat loss will be less over time. Protein: 30% 185 grams Fat: 20% 55grams Carbs: 50% 309 grams. Footnote: This is my first time doing a bulk, INTENSE resistance training, and a major caloric surplus and tracking it all.

So if anyone has any experience with a lean bulk and macros, when to eat certain macros at times in the day, and fixing a skinny fat build, I’d appreciate the feedback.

5AM workouts are killing me help =(

Whats up all,

I'm an avid forum reader on here and I know there are some amazing minded people who got results and know their dos and don't. With that said I really really need some help to try to figure out the best way get fuel and have good energy to weight train early mornings. Mornings are the only time I can workout so my alarm rings at 4 and after the usual wash my face and all I do the 2 scoops of a pre-workout wait about 20 min or so and hit the weights. But, I find that my body is very tolerant to caffeine and not even few months now and not even the pre-workout seems is giving me the fuel and energy to last through a 1 hour workout...

I'm 5'11 185 and my goal is to get rid of some of this gut fat and build muscle all around. Nothing extreme as I know that's out of my league with my schedule but I'd love to have a nice cut look with lower body fat. That being said today was the worst day of my workouts in a while. Not sure if I was dehydrated or what but I couldn't even last more then 20 minutes. Like my body had no energy to push though and I had to throw in the towel before I injured myself. I know days like this happen but this was bad and I'm hoping to not have a day like this again. I also know I am not doing something right because I am noticing a decline in my energy as well.

My question is for those that work out early mornings how do you get that energy and fuel your body without adding to many calories and gaining weight? Should I skip the pre-workout and just eat a bowl of oatmeal? Or perhaps a banana and some Greek Yogurt? Or is it my pre-workout wearing off already so time to scrap that? Then there is the pre and post workout protein shakes which make things more complicated. Just so much info out there someone new to the game like me feels really lost. I feel like I have the workout schedule down and motivated enough to finally get in good shape but have to solve this energy issue fast.

Any input from you guys and gals that kill it in the mornings would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Hike

PS I did start off at 240lbs+ a year ago so not doing bad on the losing weight part but now it's the last few lbs and muscle gain that I'm having trouble with.

Hi all,

I’ve been following the Fierce 5 beginner program for 10 weeks now making some nice gains. During this time I have been doing a clean bulk and went from 177lbs to 184lbs. Some was definitely fat but hey ho.

My question is, I am having jaw surgery in 3 weeks time and I’ve been told to do a liquid diet for 4 weeks and no training for at least 4 weeks. I am guessing I’ll lose the weight I’ve gained over the last 10 weeks. Should I continue clean bulking or should I just be eating anything in sight at this point?

Is My Nutrition Right For Getting Abs?

I have been regularly working on my abs for a couple of years (used to do 3x/week for 30 minutes with an app called Six Pack Abs In 30 days.) 4 months ago I stopped taking my GNC Mass Gainer shake because I felt like I couldn’t “outwork” the extra 1350 calories it provided. I also switched from that app program to doing Athean-X’s 7 minute abs 5-6 nights/week for the past 17 weeks. I have seen some results but they’re not defined unless I’m squeezing with all my might.

I eat very lean. For breakfast I drink a protein shake with 30g of protein/3g fat/1g sugar. Lunch consists of 1 chicken breast with brown rice and green beans. For dinner, I usually have a beef patty with green beans and a potato or ground turkey meat with quinoa and beans of some sort. Throughout the day I eat mixed nuts and Quest protein bars that have 21g protein/3g fat/1g sugar/21g carbs. I also drink 1 or 2 more protein shakes (the same one I had for breakfast).

I also have been lifting weights 3x/week for the past 4 years though it doesn’t really look like it. My estimated daily caloric intake is around 1200 calories. I don’t know if that’s enough but when I tried adding the 1350 calorie shake it just made me flabby and soft without any definition. I’m also 5’11 and weigh 145lbs.

Can someone tell me what I should do differently to get my abs to come in? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I’d post my pictures for reference but I don’t have 50 posts and body space isn’t working on mobile

Advice about how to go from where I am (Gain or Lose)

Hello. I was hoping to get some advice on how I should proceed from where I currently am.

Main Goal: Gaining as much muscle as possible for next summer

Current Body: 30 years old, 5'11" and 210 pounds. Doctor told me I should be considered Obese at this weight although all my fat is located on my stomach and chest (skinny arms and not much leg muscle)

My main question is should I possibly go on a lose fat diet before I am for muscle mass diet? I am also confused about articles online where it states if you are gaining a pound a week then you are gaining muscles but at 210, going up doesn't seem to be good.

All advice is appreciated. I have also cut out all sugar (sodas) and sweets of any kind from my diet. I just have a meal once a week outside of home with my wife.

Thank you again, hope everyone is staying safe.

Long Time IFer Needing Some Help

I am currently 30 years old, and have been Intermittent Fasting for about 6 years. I have kept my diet clean throughout the years, and I have been going to the gym consistently. I used to be extremely lean, but recently noticed I am more on the skinny fat type side, especially around my mid section- front and lower back as well as my (lower) chest. I can faintly see abs, but I used to stay in the 10-12% range. although I am probably around 17-18% body fat, at 205ish pounds. I know me getting older probably has something to do with my metabolism slowing down a touch plus I have had a decent amount of stress in my life. I typically also do not get good quality sleep, although I do sleep for 8-9 hours, but I toss and turn a lot. It seems to me like this combination of things could have potentially messed with my hormones (maybe cortisol levels)? My current goals are to lean out, and get down to about 195 pounds. I used to be really good with the lean gains carb/calorie cycling protocol but have been slacking recently. However, I've been eating around 2700-3000 calories, with about 2800 being my TDEE. Id say im about 85/15% healthy food/ non healthy. My workouts are also pretty intense- I do heavy weight training and add in intense jump rope/ HIIT treadmill or stairmaster. Im seeking some advice on where to go from here. Should I look for some way to shock my body in order to almost reset it and get back to reaping the benefits of IF? Thanks in advance!

Calorie Question

Hello,

Since I came to college I quit working out often and stopped eating right, gained about 30lbs in the past two years. About a month ago I started going to the gym regularly and intensifying my workouts. Started eating right again, went to a nutrition shop and used their inbody machine to get an idea of where I was at. Found out my BMR was around 1800 calories, and after more talking with the shop owner he estimated that I needed to eat around 2700 calories a day to lose fat. To me this seemed a bit high considering I usually eat around 2000 calories a day. I have no problem eating healthy, but I have been trying to eat 2700 calories a day with 50% carbs, 30% protein, and 20% fats, and I have been having a hard time fully meeting my carb goal.

Do yall think that 2700 calories is about right? I am 5'11", 214lbs, and 28% BF. I weight lift 5 days a week, do cardio and abs 3 of those days.

Also, if anyone has any recipes or suggestions that could help me meet my carb goal that'd be great.

Lean bulk or recomp or something else?

Hey guys,

I'm 31 and have been working out on and off for about 15 years, I've just started training again after an 18 month break from the gym..... I've lost alot of muscle and I expect my body is screaming to put on muscle and I expect my body to react well for the first few months.

I'm 6ft, 176 lbs @ around 22% bodyfat - my goal is 187lbs @ 10% bodyfat.

From averaging out all the calculators it looks like I need to eat around 3,100 calories per day to be in a 200-300 surplus, I was considering 'lean bulking' up to around 195 lbs or so then cutting. I've done a little research on the recomp but it seems to be a slower process and I would like to make as much gains initially as possible, that being said I am doing all of this purely for aesthetics and I just wanted to get opinions from a few of you guys on what may be the most successful route.

I've always been a bit of a slacker but I feel like this time I'm taking it seriously - counting my calories etc. I'll do whatever it takes and I don't really care what I have to put my body through.

So currently, my plan is to gain around 1lbs per week until I hit 195 or so, then cut off the fat and hopefully look shredded - but this may change based on what I learn to be optimal.

If you haven't already gathered, I'm a bit of a noob so yeah just putting it out there for you guys to critique and throw any pointers my way :)

Much appreciated.

Its looking like my maintenance calories are around 2600-2800 so I have been aiming for 3100 with the intention of bulking to 195 or so then cutting.

Here is a current example of what I'm eating on a daily basis taken from my tracker;

Breakfast
Peanut Butter Toast x 4 = 570cal
500ml low fat milk = 280 cal
3 egg whites = 51cal

Lunch
Half red rooster chicken = 1170 cal

Snack
Huge protein shake with milk, bananas, whey protein, eggs and yoghurt = 800 cal

Dinner
4 pieces oven bake fish = 600 cal

A fair bit over target @ 3400 calories.

I've got a few questions;

1. Is it best that I bulk then cut to achieve my goal of 187 @ 10%?
2. My diet includes alot of low fat milk - is this going to make me put on too much fat?
3. I'm hitting at least 200g protein a day and 3,000 + calories but I'm not calculating carbs and fat so much - is it a major issue to not calculate carbs and fat?
4. Would you consider my current intake to be a dirty bulk?

If possible I'd like to avoid putting in the time on meal prep but if it's a necessity I will do it. My goal isn't to get huge but to have a respectable size and be super lean, if you guys have any other advice that would be sweet.

Much appreciated

Cut/Maintain/Bulk

Hello

I am in a bit of a predicament and keep changing my mind so hoping someone who has a clue can basically tell me.

At present I am 5ft 11 and weight 166 pounds. I am generally skinny (long skinny arms and legs, fairly broad shoulders and a rather annoying dad belly). My overall aim is to bulk up. I do have a wedding in Cyprus to attend in November and with gyms reopening this weekend, I want to make a start.

I am going with the Fierce 5 Full body routine and have worked out my Macros for a bulk - however, in order to look better for the wedding. I am best to cut first to lose the belly, maintain to shape what I have or bulk and accept the belly and increase overall size?

Is it possible I would lose some of the belly just due to working out even on a bulk? If I opt for a cut or maintain in my calories can I build muscle still?

Any advice is much appreciated
