I'm a bit confused, I've heard that you can still gain muscle with a calorie deficit as long as your protein per day is high. Obviously your gains may not be as good as they could be if you were eating in a surplus. What I don't get is when you're eating more than you burn, excess 'fat' is not turned into muscle correct? So what's the point of eating in surplus? Is it so your body has more residual energy?
