As I get older (pushing 30) I've noticed that there are some foods that although they taste good, they absolutely wreck my insides for the next few days (feeling sick, bloated, twisted stomach) - which makes my performance (mental and physical) poorer than usual.
I don't know how to describe it, but I think they are processed/refined foods and in terms of drinks soda and anything high sugar.
I'm on the fence about coffee, because I like the caffeine element, but too much of it can cause acid reflux.
I've also noticed that I really, really dislike alcohol now (especially drinking a lot of it), but that will ruin my stomach for a few days, hangovers are worse and I will nearly always cheat on my diet.
In terms of things that make me feel good;
1) Fruits (but portions limited somewhat because of sugars)
2) Varied and high volume of vegetables
3) Varied protein sources. Fish, white meat and red meat.
4) Good fat sources (fatty fish, mackerel, salmon, avocado)
5) Carb sources : Potato (sweet and white), brown rice seems better than white rice not sure why, oatmeal
Is there anything else I'm missing to improve overall gut health / wellbeing / performance? Or is there anything I should definitely be aiming to include or exclude?
I've notice green tea can help with digestion in the morning and keeping sugars low makes my energy levels more stable throughout the day/evening.
High water intake too (around 4 litres a day)
Thanks!
