Deficit ideas? Where to start from?!

Hey y’all!

I’ve been reading some threads and saw that some recommended 1% per bodyweight per week re: fat loss.. what does that mean exactly please?

Also, I am starting my cut at circa 1,700 kcals per day (-400 kcal deficit from my TDEE and doing around 100 kcals cardio per day.. to a total of a -500kcal deficit from my TDEE with the hope of losing 1.5/2lbs per week). Current weight is 188 lbs and I’m 5’ 10’’.

A friend of mine told me that my caloric intake is a bit too low, but I need to lose more bodyfat before I lean-bulk next year, in the hope of competing the year after.

Any thoughts please? Thank you!
