Need advice about nutrition

So I started with a trainer yesterday, he sent a 1400 calorie diet, for 8 days. Before that I was cutting at 1900-2000 calories, told him I wanted to gain mass now, he told me that first I will eat 1400 and after we will change diet plan, does it make sense? I feel like it's not much food. I'm at 174 pounds, I measure 174 and I have some muscle since I've been training for about 2-3 years. The diet consists of about 150g of protein, 140 carbs and 30g fat. I train 5 days a week, currently doing PHAT program, besides that really sedentary since current situation
