Does keto even matter?

I have always thought of nutrition as calories in vs out when it comes to cutting. But the claim by keto fans is that your body becomes more efficient at burning fat, 1) does this even matter if you're in a calorie deficit 2) is there any scientific literature to backup keto being more "efficient" at burning fat, like I know in theory but in reality?
