Am I wasting gains if I don’t eat in a surplus on the day I train?

For example, if I train shoulders on Monday, Back on Tuesday and Chest on Wednesday, but I only eat in a surplus on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, am I losing gains?

Basically, how long after training a certain muscle will the muscle be open for growth from extra calories?
