Difference of a surplus in bulking

Hey guys, recently I started bulking. First thing I did was I calculated my maitainance calories in various websites and based on my weight, height and activity level it was around 2900-3000 kcal per day.

Question - is there a big difference in a small surplus (100-200kcal) vs big surplus (500+kcal) in terms of strength and muscle size increase. I'm thinking of going for a small surplus to lean bulk but I'm not sure if it will be optimal.

I'm a beginner lifter, current stats : 6'4, 193 pounds, squat 155 x 12, bench press 135 x 10, romanian deadlift 200 x 10, bent over rows 125 x 10, pull ups bodyweight x 8, ohp 95lbs x 10.

Figuring out Macros

According to a calorie calculator I need 2724 calories to maintain weight. If I add 300 calories for a bulk I am at 3024 calories. At a 40/40/20 split I would have 302 g for carbs and protein and 67 for fat. I have read that you shouldn’t eat more than 1g of protein/1 lbs of body weight. I weigh 210 pounds so that would be 210 g of protein. Do I increase the amount of carbs to compensate for the lower protein? Or throw away the 1g/1p philosophy

Intermittent fasting question? Calories?

Hi,

I have some questions about intermittent fasting and the amount of calories I should eat.

I am a man, 1m80cm, 90 kg.

I started intermittent fasting a few weeks ago, I eat between 12 pm and 8 pm.

I want to lose 8 kg pretty quickly and maintain my muscles as much as possible.

I workout 4 times a week. 1 session is 90 minutes:first part is 45 minute weight lifting session and second part is 45 minute walking uphill. I burn around 300-600 calories per session.

I need 2'000 calories to stay at my current weight. So I thought about cutting the calories by 20% to lose weight.

So I aim for 1'600 calories. (160-180 grams of proteins and 150 grams of carbs per day)

1) I am aiming for 1'600 calories to lose weight. For the days I workout, should I add the calories I burnt? for example, add 1'600 calories to 500 and eat 2'100 calories the days I workout? I am afraid that if I eat only 1'600 calories the days I workout, I'd be very very hungry (but it's maybe a limiting belief). What do you think?

2) To preserve muscles, I am eating 2 grams of proteins for 1 kg of my weight, so 160-180 grams. Regarding the carbs, is 150g ok? too much? too little?
I am having the rest of my calories with healthy fats ( salmon, avocado, nuts, etc). What do you think about the amount of carbs I am eating?

3) I eat 3 times during my intermittent fasting window.
12pm: meal 1: carbs, fats + protein + vegetables
3pm: snack: protein + fat
7pm: protein + fats + carbs + vegetables
What do you think?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Need some advice

Hello people!

I need some advice. I'm 5'3, weight 135lbs, eat about 1300 cals on avg. I'm a beginner, and usually workout about 3 times a week. Due to quarantine, I can't go to the gym but I do own some 20lb weights which I use for arms, and leg workouts. For core, I'll usually concentrate on calisthenics. I'll usually do about 30 mins of arms, core, or legs. My usual workouts will be something like 30mins of arms, 30 mins of core, and then 20 mins of cardio. And then I'll rotate the parts I'll focus on. I've been at it since August, and dropped a pants size already. I've also noticed some gains, and increased strength. However, I'm having trouble cutting. What is the best course of action if I'm trying to build muscle and look cut? I don't want to be skinny muscular, but rather something in between Erin Stern and Brooke Ence.
What should my macros be? My workouts? And my cals?

Muscle Memory Study

I recently listened to the "Stronger by Science Podcast" with Greg Nuckols that recounted all the year's biggest studies, and I found their discussion of this analyses on the concept of myonuclear muscle memory particularly interesting:https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7317456/.

If I understand it correctly, this seems to suggest that there's no solid evidence that the cause of "muscle memory" comes from within the cells of the muscle itself. On the podcast, Greg was suggesting that he takes this to mean that muscle memory itself may not exist. This is in direct contrast to both personal experience and a number other studies I've read that "muscle memory" of some form does in fact exist. This includes the very well-documented findings that show increased gains for gear users over lifetime natural lifters. To me, this review merely suggests that there may be another mechanism that we don't full understand that actually results in what we refer to as muscle memory. The paper even suggests plausible causal mechanisms such as an altering of the epigenetic code that could explain the phenomenon. It seems like a clear example of tring to grasp at straws to explain a real phenomenon that we can't otherwise make sense of. Thoughts...?

Broke leg :( Need some diet advice

Well $hit happens and I broke my tibia clean and shattered my fibula, so am pretty immobile for the next 3-6 months. I was currently on a slow clean bulk, but have a very high metabolism and do a lot of cardio sports along w 3x Fierce 5x5, so often find it hard to put on weight in general. Now that my leg is broken, that all changes.

The break was pretty complex, so doc said I'd be bedridden for 2 weeks. Makes sense as every time I stand the blood rush to my leg feels like poison. After 2 weeks, he said I'd be able to walk w 50% of normal weight, then another 10% every week after. 1 month til I can walk normal w/o crutches but prob w a cain. Not until 3 months will I be able to go on light runs.

So yea, this is guna suck, and last thing I want to do is get fat.

Stats:
5'11"
162 lbs
Age: 31
Normal macro split: 40% carb, 30% protein and 30% fats
Maintenance: 2600 cals

What kind of diet should I switch to to retain muscle in my upper body but not gain a ton of weight. I need good healthy fats to improve some of the knee joints that were impacted, but luckily not torn. Obviously protein needs to be abundant, but if I'm literally couch ridden, do I need 150+ g of protein esp these first 2 weeks? Should I avoid carbs altogether or just make sure I get them from healthy vegetables w lots of calcium, iron and fiber?

I've done a bunch of research and most sites are for the average lazy American, not someone as active of a lifestyle as me. It would be great if one of you nutrition experts could point me in the right direction.

Thanks a bunch in advance!
