wtf calorie calculators??

Using calculator.net (which I assume is more accurate than the other calculator I use because of all the different caveats and nuances not included in the other's algorithm) which told me (6'1, 165lbs, 19 year old active male) that about 2800 is a decent maintenance dose of calories (+500 for surplus = 3300). But the app 'MyFitnessPal' says that 2.2k is sufficient for gaining 1lb/week.

There is a huge difference between 3300 and 2200 calories. Only one can be right. A difference of 1000 calories is either going to make me fat or skinny if I follow the wrong guide. Why is one of them extremely wrong and which should I follow? Other calculators I've used have said 2400-2700 so the law of averages isn't very helpful either.
