My Tip of the Day

Lately I've been buying Tri-Tip steaks. For those of you who are not familiar with this cut, it's about $4.00 a pound, and comes in 3-5 pound cuts. Since 3-5 pound cuts are too much to eat at one time, I just slice off 4-6 ounces at a time and cook it up. At $4.00 a pound, it tastes a little better than hamburger but it's nothing like a ribeye or KC strip.

So this is what I started doing. After I buy the steak, I slice the entire piece into 2-3 ounce pieces. I put 4-6 ounces into a snack size ziplock bag and pour some spicy bloody mary mix in the bag (Zing Zang). Then I put all the bags in the fridge and cook one at mealtime. The bloody mary mix is a tenderizer and a marinade at the same time. It makes the $4.00/pound cut taste like an $8/pound cut.
