I don’t know if nutrition is the right place to put this but here it goes. So I’ll start by saying I’ve been skinny, like really skinny my whole life. I’ve had a six pack since I was born. I’m 28 and 5’11” I’ve had a few stints of working out in the past, most recently a few years ago focusing on compound lifts and strength training. But I just couldn’t keep the extra calories down, wasn’t gaining weight, life took a turn and I gave up. After I gave up I went through a rough period where I just wasn’t eating. Maybe a meal a day at most. I went from 142 pounds to 129 pounds in about a year and half. Got things back on track, went back to school, ended up going to the doctor a few weeks back and realized I weighed 152 pounds. Went home and reweighed myself, cause I thought no way it’s real. And it it was. I gained 23 pounds in 10 months (129 was my last weight before this weigh in). Not healthy weight by any means. Hasn’t been all junk food either though. I think my metabolism is starting to finally slow down. I gained it mostly around my abdomen, legs and glutes.
Now that I have this weight, which I so desperately tried to obtain for years and years, I want to get back to lifting. My question is, do I bulk at this point or cut? Or do I lift and just keep eating what I’ve been eating? Cause it hasn’t been all junk necessarily, just more calories and stress eating cause of nursing school.
I don’t want to continue to gain weight around my abdomen though. It’s not too bad yet, but it’s getting there. I’m not obese by any means and my BMI is normal, but I want to take advantage of being able to actually gain weight now without having to try so hard. So do I cut? Bulk? Or continue to do what I’ve been doing, but just add more protein and cut the junk food all together?
