When I first moved out on my own about five years ago, I lived in a somewhat dingy apartment and so used a Brita filter for my drinking water. My current place is in a better area and is a little nicer, in the same metropolitan area but a different municipality, so I think the water source is different. I live in a landlocked state and all of our water reservoirs are from dammed lakes.
Anyway, on my bathroom faucets (tub and sink) I've noticed that some filmy stalactites form over time, so there's obviously some impurities (minerals or otherwise) in the water I drink here. Probably more than half of the water I drink comes from the delivered bottles in the cooler at work, but I still drink a significant amount of the tap water here.
I've already decided to use my Brita filter again, but how concerning would you say it is already to have been drinking this tap water for three years now? From what little I know, lead poisoning is a bit of a conflated concern, but I wouldn't have funk growing off of my faucet if it was completely fine...
