Focus on losing more fat or recomping?
Following discussions I’ve followed on this section of the forum, I’m seriously considering doing a recomp instead of focusing on a calorie deficit. However, I want to make sure it is the right approach given my training status.
I’ve been working out for 20 weeks, and dieting (deficit) for 16 weeks. I’ve lost 5kg (11lbs) during these 16 weeks (now sitting at 65.3kg/144lbs at 5’8”), and made some newbie strength gains and muscle gains. Waist went down from 36” to 32.5”.
My first target was to get to around 15% bodyfat before going on a low bulk (at 36" waist I was definitely not going to bulk - my first motivator to start working out a few months ago was because I had gotten fat), but I’ve still got around 5% bodyfat to lose I think (see photos - link below) to get to around 15% bodyfat. I’m honestly on the fence between continuing to focus on fat loss (on the downside, not making much strength gains or increases in size), or trying out a recomp i.e. keeping calories close to maintenance and only increasing the calories if my strength gains stall.
What would you do? Caloric deficit until I get to 15% and then increase the calories later, or increase the calories to maintenance immediately (i.e. recomp now)?
I'm currently still linearly progressing in the gym. Appreciate your thoughts - thanks.

Hi everyone. To start off I am a 5’8 around 132 pound girl and can be considered an ectomorph for sure. I would consider myself very active. Cardio (4x a week, 3-3.5 mile runs) (Usually only burn 335 cals from the run) Weight Lifting 6x a week and getting 10k-11k steps a day. On my cardio days recently for the past 2 weeks I have been eating around 2,800 calories a day and still have not gained any weight what so ever on the scale and still stay at 132. My non cardio days I still eat around 2,400 and still have not gained a pound. I’m not looking to necessarily “bulk” but some days I have lost lost .5-1 pound and most days I maintain but never gain anything which confuses me so much because I eat a BUNCH. I do track my progress in my fitness pal. What would you guys assume my TDEE is and why am I not gaining any weight with this amount of calories.

Stuck on what to do
Hey guys,
Hope you're all well, healthy and safe.
I seek for a word of advice in a pretty desperate time, as I feel this is going to drive me insane.
I'm a 23 year old male. 6ft tall, weigh around 164 Lbs.
I've started at-home exercises as have no access to a gym and have been doing this for around 6 weeks now; I do 4 sets of push ups and a workout from YouTube every day. Prior to this, I pretty much did nothing at all.
I've been eating 1800 calories per day [all weighed, measured and logged on Myfitnesspal] mainly consisting of lean meat, greens, eggs and low fat cheese. On paper, it would seem I'm doing everything right as I've followed all the nutrition advice I could find.
1800 calories is not a lot, I find myself hungry constantly and it all seems to be for nothing; my body composition has not changed one bit, I haven't lost any weight and I haven't become much stronger. I feel I've very little muscle, as I cannot do any pull ups and lack energy and strength quite often, even though my bloodwork seems to be okay. The reason I'm trying to put myself in a deficit is because I just want to look somewhat lean; I carry a fair amount of fat around my thighs and feel like my chest and belly is flabby and have a bit of a pooch. Regardless of what I do I just cannot seem to progress. It's almost like my body is completely refusing to get rid of any fat unless I drop to something silly like 1500 calories, which I just wouldn't be able to sustain or maintain.
I'm in a state of desperation, constantly thinking there's something wrong with me and I just cannot seem to get out of it. Has anyone been in a similar boat or know what I should try to do? I'm open to any advice and am willing to do anything to simply progress my body to a state I'm okay with rather than battling with myself on a daily basis.

Hey there!
This might sound ridiculous to you, but I am cutting at just a bit over 1,900 kcals per day and feel like I'm gonna explode after some meals. Macros are 220c 131p 56f. I started incorporating foods like avocados and oatmeal to boost my fiber intake (because it was too low), and after a mid-sized meal (cup of oats and 1.5cups full fat milk) I feel full as hell and makes me think I'm eating too much. I'm not hungry a lot of the time so I have to force-feed to get in the required calories for the day. Any suggestions please?

Hey! This might be an interesting question.
I have this so-called 'ritual' with a friend of mine where we go and have a meal once a week and not calculate perfect macros. I still do, however, have around 80g of protein that day, and the amount of calories remains exactly the same, of course I end up increasing a bit more carbs and fat in lieu of protein. I don't have whey or casein powders cause for some reason they make me bloated and feeling unwell. I still train 6 days a week, including that day we go out to eat.
Are there any possible repercussions of not hitting your daily protein needs once every 7 days in terms of muscle loss?

Hi everyone! My stats as of now are 21 years old, 132-133 pounds, and am 5’8. I was looking to start eating around 2,400 calories a day to maintain my current weight. My activity is; 4 days a week 25-30 min cardio sessions (3.5 mile runs), Lifitng 6x a week, and Walkimg 10000k steps + everyday. Weight Loss Help
I got way too heavy a few weeks back. So, I decided to start losing weight. I dropped my calories down to 2,350 and was able to drop over ten pounds. Now I've gone as low as 2,150ish, but I seem to be hitting a hard plateau. So, my first instinct is to lower my calories because I already lift weights and do cardio.
I am sort of weary about dropping my cals too low. I am considering re-feed days as well. Would it be smart to drop my calories below 2,000? I weigh 229# today, although I'm going to weigh a bit more than that after x-mas with the family.

Was wondering something today.. a bodybuilder friend of mine told me that he has slight weight fluctuations depending on the amount of sodium he consumes.. I started taking notice of my sodium amounts on MyFitnessPal and noted that sometimes I have 3,000 mg of sodium in a day and sometimes even less than 2,000. Should I keep exact track of sodium levels per day as I do with my macros? As in make sure to get e.g. 2,500mg every day, not more not less?

Six Star Nutrition Creatine Review
Hey guys just wanted to give my review. I give it a 1/5 stars. I have the Creatine X3 Fruit Punch. This creatine is horrible. I will never buy from six star again because of it. Reasons why I think it’s terrible:
1) The serving sizes are huge. They are the size of a scoop of protein. The Creatine from ON Nutrition is literally 1 teaspoon.
2) The flavor is trash. This fruit punch flavor leaves me feeling a little sick. It’s so artificial.
3) There is a lot more than just Creatine in here. There is also a lot of sugar and a little amino acids which I want neither of. I just wanted straight creatine.
4) It doesn’t mix well at all. I am literally drinking chunks no matter how much water I use or how much I shake and stir.
5) It uses a red dye that stains bad and is hard to get off skin. Plus, some people are worried the Red Dye 40 (which it uses) is linked to cancer which does bother me a little bit.
6) There is only 35 servings in a container that is twice to three times the size of the average creatine container. The average creatine container contains 70+ servings. So basically you are paying a lot more per serving.
I only use this creatine as a backup now because I didn’t want to throw it away. I would absolutely never recommend this to anyone to buy.
